Our pipe and cable Locators are extremely effective and versatile tools for locating underground utilities including cable TV lines, fiber optic lines, gas lines, irrigation lines, tracer wire, power lines, streetlight wiring, water lines and sewer lines.
Pipe and Cable Locators have both a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter induces an electric current that circulates through an object creating a magnetic field, which is then detected by the receiver.

Schonstedt offers two basic types of pipe and cable locators:
The XTpc :
A Single Frequency Locator. Choose from two pre-set frequencies: 82kHz or 33kHz, depending on your need. In general, 82kHz is useful in tracing gas and water lines, while 33kHz is a better choice for tracing electrical lines. The XTpc also offers one passive frequency (50Hz or 60Hz) along with sonde or passive cathodic capabilities.
The Most Portable Option. Weighing about 3 pounds, the XTpc is the most portable pipe and cable locator available. The transmitter fits in a shirt pocket while the receiver can be holstered for mobility, then easily extended for greater sensitivity.
The Lower Cost Alternative. The XTpc is priced at around $2,200
The TraceMaster II :
A Multiple Frequency Locator. This high-end alternative is suitable for any locating challenge; for example, a congested underground environment. The top of the line model offers three active frequencies (575Hz, 8kHz, 82kHz), a choice of one passive frequency (50Hz or 60Hz), and a radio link to enable �on-the-fly� frequency changes from the receiver.
A choice of sonde is available. An alternative model with manually adjusted frequencies and no radio link is also available.
The Most Versatile Option. Weighing about 12 pounds, the TraceMaster II is a locating workhorse �versatile enough to handle any application across all industries.
Price. The TraceMaster II is priced at around $3,800.
Both the XTpc and the TraceMaster II have direction arrows, signal strength and depth readouts, as well as "continuity" or "good connection" indications on the transmitter.
