About Pipe & Cable Locators

Schonstedt Pipe & Cable Locators have been setting the standard for reliability and dependability in locating buried utilities – water pipes, sewer pipes, cable, electrical lines, and gas —quickly and easily.

In standard applications, Pipe & Cable Locators, also referred to as “line detectors” or “utility locators”, use a transmitter and a receiver.

The transmitter applies an electrical current onto the underground pipe or cable, and the receiver detects it above ground, allowing the operator, or contractor, to trace the path and depth of a buried utility before excavation begins.
