Schonstedt Humanitarian Demining Locators Deployed to Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

Since the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s independence in 1960, the country has been locked in a spiral of armed conflict that has resulted in nationwide contamination of explosive hazards. The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has been present in the DRC since 2002, supporting the National Mine Action Authority (CCLAM) in coordinating the survey and clearance activities of suspected hazardous areas identified throughout the country. In August 2018, the Schonstedt Humanitarian Demining Initiative (SHDI) deployed ten (10) locators to the DRC to aid in the detection of buried landmines, explosive remnants of war (ERW) and other unexploded ordnance…

NSPS Scholarship Winner – Jacob LaRue

We are proud to join with the National Society of Professional Surveyors in announcing that Jacob Larue is the 2018 recipient of the Schonstedt Scholarship in Surveying. Jacob is pursuing a Surveying & Mapping Degree with a Certificate in GIS at the University of Akron, where he also passed the FAA Certification Test in UAS (drones), allowing him to fly drones for commercial use in surveying and mapping. Surveying Scholarship Awarded

AS REPORTED BY AZERNEWS 06/27/17 — By Rashid Shirinov An unexploded 76-millimeter artillery shell was detected in the Sabunchu district of Baku on the territory called ‘Gulchuluk state farm’ while inspecting a garden, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told Trend on June 26. ANAMA took the detected ammunition from the territory to defuse it. In general, ANAMA specialists detected 5,780 unexploded ordnance, as well as 191 anti-tank and 30 anti-personnel mines, in Azerbaijan since early 2017. >Read the full story here
