How it works: The GA-72Cd Magnetic Locator quickly defines where pipe joints occur and where a metallic transitional change occurs, as iron mass increases and decreases along the pipe path. It offers three levels of precise measurement — audio, polarity bar graph and a displayed value of magnetic strength intensity called milli-gaus.
While walking over a pre-marked pipe path such as a gas or water main, the operator makes one pass along 2 to 3 pipe sections. Easy and simple adjustments are then made to the locator’s sensitivity to compensate for installation depth, surface and soil type and pipe size. These “points of interest” become more pronounced on the display’s read-out, and the type or size of a coupling or fitting can readily be determined.
